Nick Jonas was barely a teenager when he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
“I was a 13-year-old kid with a life that was kind of uprooted by this disease,” the musician and actor told me Wednesday at the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation’s “Big Fighters, Big Cause” charity boxing match at the Beverly Hilton hotel. “I didn’t really know of anybody in the public eye who was living with it at the time.”
Three years later, when the Jonas Brothers were one of the hottest boy bands around, Jonas went public with is condition.
“If me sharing my story over these past 16 years has helped anybody, that’s the goal,” he said.
He was honored by the foundation with this year’s Golden Glove award for his diabetes advocacy. “I look to the people that helped me through my journey — my family, my friends — and I want tonight to be about them,” Jonas said. “But they decided to give me this honor and it just kind of feels bizarre in some ways, but I’m really grateful.”
The Jonas Brothers will be on stage early next month for a five nights of performances in Las Vegas. “We’re cooking up a few special things for our fans,” Jonas said. “They’re going to help us pick the set list every night. We all walked through our homes and grabbed a bunch of own personal memorabilia that we’re going to be selling for a dollar each at a pawn shop to thank them for always being so supportive.”
What couldn’t Jonas part with? “Not to say it won’t happen in the future, but a couple of lyric sheets and a certain guitar,” he said.
The charity event took place just a day after the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, which left 19 children and two adults dead. Jonas tweeted about the massacre, “I am sending my thoughts and prayers to everyone who lost a loved one in this horrific tragedy and all of the far too frequent tragedies in the recent weeks, months, and years. But that being said, we all know that thoughts and prayers are not enough.”
He also tweeted a link to Mom’s Demand Action, a group demanding solutions to end gun violence. “As a father, as an uncle, I can’t not think about the kids and all the lives that were lost,” Jonas told me. “I’m hoping for change to happen and we’ll see the end of this.”
Jonas and wife Priyanka Chopra welcomed their first baby, daughter Malti Marievia a surrogate in January. The couple recently revealed that the newborn spent the first 100 days following her birth in the neonatal intensive care unit. Jonas says Texas and similar tragedies have hit harder now that he’s a dad. “Everything does,” Jonas said. “The weight of everything is much more intense. I think it’s now about trying to be as present as possible and as thoughtful as you can be for your family, but also for other people’s journeys. Discussing the issue of racism, she said: ‘Concerning the fight for racial justice, a fight that so many have devoted their lives to over so many years, a fight that has stubbornly refused to be won, I’m daring to hope.

The Marvel icon opened up about witnessing a sexual assault at the University of Zimbabwe when she was nine years old.

After five days of pre-cleansing, the two visited an ayurvedic centre where they received 4-hour-treatment every day for a week. Kourtney’s treatment was aimed at preparing her womb for a baby while Travis’ treatment was focused on his muscle tension.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian was seen shooting for a promo for The Kardashians with Kendall Jenner. She revealed to her mother that she was comfortable reading her own contracts and practicing law in her own work as a lawyer.
Kim visited her storage unit to find inspiration for the Balenciaga campaign and to figure out what her “next era of fashion” should be. The unit has 30,000 dresses that Kim has worn over the past couple of years. She could easily remember which dress she wore on which occasion and her hairstyle and eyeshadow color for the same.
Kim confessed that she had forgotten that she “could have an opinion” with Kanye.
Later in the episode, Kim announced to her family that Kanye was releasing a new song about her. The family was disgusted by the fact that someone could say mean things about the mother of their children.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner told Kris Jenner that she wanted to do “normal things” with her. The two decided to go grocery shopping. Kris Jenner revealed that she had not been to a grocery store in two years. She said,
“It’s good for our souls.”
After shopping, Kris Jenner encouraged Kylie to put the shopping cart back in its place and made her famous statement as she walked to the store,
“You’re doing amazing, sweetie!”
Kylie and Kris stopped by a gas station on their way to a car wash. Kris took a long time to figure out how to get gas for the car. Kris compared the car wash experience to going to Disneyland and planned to bring her grandkids next time.

Kris broke the sad news to Kendall that she was not selected to be the cover girl of Vogue March and Kim got the job instead. She revealed that her agent had already delivered the news to her and she seemed to be handling the news well.

Inspired by Halle Berry’s “Fitness Friday” Instagram posts, fitness author Greg Presto decided to try out one of the more physically challenging workout routines that trainer Peter Lee Thomas developed for the actress in a new YouTube video. “It is no joke,” he says.
The first move is the Hindu squat, performed for 30 reps. “Hindu squats have been done for centuries,” says Presto. “This heels-up squat variation lets you go nice and deep.” While traditionally this squat variation involves extending and swinging the arms, Presto films himself doing a hands-down version due to a balance issue.
The second exercise is the dumbbell weighted squat jump, again performed for 30 reps. “I have been doing a lot of squats in my recent training, so I felt pretty confident about getting through Halle’s squat-heavy work,” he says.
Next up are 12 reps of the archer squat. “I knew these were going to give my hamstrings a real stretch,” he says. “These were tough… I am not a very bendy person.”
The fourth move is the high-knee run and punch, performed with dumbbells for 4o punches (2o on each side). Presto reduces the weight on this round in order to minimize strain on his shoulders. “I had done the squat jumps holding 25-pound dumbbells, for these I used just 7.5 pounds in each hand,” he says.
Exercise number five is the straight leg toe touch, done for 15 reps, and Presto struggles to complete these with proper form: his knees are slightly bent throughout.
Next are 30 Hindu pushups. “In this exercise, your head and hips swoop through as you push up,” he says. “I’ve been doing these for years, but I never feel like I’m doing them right.”
Finally, Presto ends on 30 reps of straight leg situps, completing the workout in 12 minutes 11 seconds. “Those Hindu pushups and archer squats were really the hardest part for me,” he says.

Adam Sandler may be the movie star who least cares what people think of him. While he has some stiff competition with Harrison Ford’s late period grumpiness and Samuel L. Jackson’s complete and total willingness to do any project put in front of him, Sandler has spent his career demonstrating that he will make whatever film he feels like, regardless of critical opinion, good taste, or really, anything but its potential for an all-expense paid family vacation and product placement. Sometimes that means he will make unexpected choices like the 9/11 survivor drama Reign Over Me or a magical realist film about Jewish immigrant identity with Method Man. But more often, Adam Sandler’s own weird muse will bring him to movies like Pixels. The 2015 alien invasion/video game comedy is streaming for free on IMDB’s Freevee platform and is currently in its top ten most-watched movies.
Pixels stars Adam Sandler as Sam Brenner, a former child arcade game champion who has grown into being a somewhat sad sack home theater installer who is also best friends with the President of the United States of America. As you might expect, Pixels is not a movie that takes itself very seriously; the President is played by Sandler buddy Kevin James, who is introduced in a riff on George W. Bush’s famous decision to continue reading to a classroom of children when informed of 9/11. While the pairing of Adam Sandler and Kevin James has frequently resulted in movies like the queasy gay panic comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and the various Grown Upsthey actually play well here as childhood friends whose life paths have wildly diverged but still remain bizarrely close.
The plot of Pixels begins with the young version of Adam Sandler discovering his video game talents in a 1980s arcade, only to be defeated by a flashy, arrogant challenger named Eddie “The Fireblaster” Plant clearly modeled after real-life video game champion Billy Mitchell. For some reason, their championship match is recorded and shot into space, whereupon aliens apparently find the recording, view it as a challenge, and invade Earth. The aliens communicate via CGI recordings of 1980s-era celebrities like Madonna, Hall & Oates, and Ricardo Montalbán and use the patterns of games like Pac-Man and Centipede to attack. Adam Sandler rounds up a team including conspiracy theorist Josh Gad and the grown Firerblaster (played by a very committed, very mulleted Peter Dinklage) and the literal games are afoot.
While the elevator pitch for Pixels could have been as simple as “Adam Sandler defends the Earth from arcade game aliens,” it was actually based on an award-winning 2010 French short film of the same name by Patrick Jean. Unsurprisingly, Adam Sandler and his longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy added in a lot of exceedingly broad jokes and Michelle Monaghan as a military weapons developer and single mom for a love interest. That said, Pixels is a surprisingly weird movie for all of its constant pop culture references and Josh Gad mugging. Far too often, the movie grinds to a halt so Gad can perform interminable schtick, but it also has admirably bizarre moments like Dinklage longingly asking if he can murder the adorable 3D Q*Bert; Adam Sandler immediately tells him no and that they need to learn to understand the alien being. Then they can kill him.
It is that kind of weird darkness that runs as an undercurrent in even the most family-friendly of Adam Sandler movies. So is a scene in which an enraged general played by Brian Cox screams “You heard Hall & Oates! You blew it!” upon learning of the imminent destruction of Earth. And perhaps weirdest and funniest of all is a scene in which a giant pixellated, hostile Pac-Man is confronted by his Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani (played Denis Akiyama as a mysterious genius, while the real Toru Iwatani actually cameos early in the film), who expresses his belief that Pac-Man is good of heart and the true son of his heart, only to have his hand bitten off and run screaming is another good example of the kind of subversiveness that manages to sneak in even a movie like Pixels.
Pixels was yet another box office victory for Adam Sandler, grossing nearly $250 million. As one might expect, it was not critically well-received and currently holds a grim 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. But despite all the Josh Gad and product placement for 2015 Mini Cooper S three-door models, Pixels is a surprisingly weird and dark movie. Fortunately, you can decide that for yourself for free.

In an interview with Screen Rant at Star Wars Celebration, writer Jon Kasdan spoke confidently about the chances of seeing Solo‘s story continue, specifically Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra:
“I think we are. I think some day we’re gonna see what happened, and how Qi’ra sort of advanced through the world, through the crime syndicates.”
Kasdan noted that he’s discussed continuing Qi’ra’s story with The Mandalorian writer Jon Favreau, a fan of the film himself:
“I’ve talked to Jon Favreau about it, and he’s a big fan of [Solo] and some of the stuff we built out. And I said, ‘Well, you’re the guy to figure it out.’ I always look to him to keep the story alive and keep it going.”
With the vastness of current Star Wars storytelling, Kasdan sees room for other Solo characters to make their mark on upcoming adventures:
“Star Wars is going in so many fun directions. And specifically, I saw that trailer for Andor today, and I thought, ‘Well, Enfys Nest is gonna show up somewhere in that show.’ So I’m hopeful that a lot of those people continue the journos they were on.”

Writer Charles Soule’s trilogy of miniseries is scheduled to end later in the year with The Hidden Empirewhich should give fans a better idea of Qi’ra’s future… if she can survive the wrath of Darth Vader and the Emperor.
In the lead-up to The Book of Boba Fettthe prevailing theory was that Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn would be revealed as the main antagonists for the titular crime lord. That ultimately proved untrue, as Boba instead went up against the Pyke Syndicate and Cad Bane to establish freedom for the city of Mos Espa. Fett’s challenges in the present day never took him off of Tatooine, though the end of the season hinted at his desire to pursue something else.
Boba Fett was initially billed as a limited series, but the popularity of the character and phenomenal viewership numbers will certainly have Disney and Lucasfilm considering more journeys for the character. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni seem keen on maintaining Fett as one of the key players in the MandoVerse, so he can be expected to appear again sooner than later – perhaps as early as The Mandalorian Season 3 in February.
It’s worth noting that Favreau isn’t just a fan of Solobut also played a part in it. The writer and actor lent his voice for the role of Rio Durant, who unfortunately met his fate fairly early on in the film. Any discussions with Jon Kasdan about continuing the story of Qi’ra and other Solo characters can only be a good thing, and the executive producer’s pre-existing connection to that story bodes well for the inclusion of Crimson Dawn and the group’s mysterious leader as the MandoVerse expands.

Researchers at Kobe University performed a 3D numerical thermomechanical simulation of thermal convection in the Alaska subduction zone with the aim of revealing the mechanism behind these low-frequency tremors. Based on the 3D thermal structure obtained from the simulation, and the indications of hydrous minerals contained in the slab, the researchers calculated the water content distribution and compared the results of these calculations in the area where the tremors occur.
The results revealed high levels of dehydration in the marine sediment layers and ocean crust in the earthquake region. The researchers believe that the reason the tremors only occur in the Yakutat terrane is because the marine sediment layers and ocean crust are thicker there, which means that the level of dehydration is higher than in the western adjacent Pacific plate (where tectonic tremors don’t occur).

Further Research
In 1964, a megathrust earthquake occurred in Alaska. This is the biggest earthquake that has occurred in the Alaska subduction zone and the second most powerful earthquake recorded in world history. The low-frequency tectonic tremors that were the subject of this research occur close to the epicenter of the 1964 earthquake, at the downdip of the plate interface. Next, the research group will continue to make thermomechanical models of various subduction zones to search for universal and regional characteristics of the causal mechanisms behind undersea megathrust earthquakes and slow earthquakes.
