Vydat album po jedenácti letech, to je už pořádná událost, navíc když je i pro kulturu tahle doba dost nejistá. Ladybirds se toho ale nebály, a jejich fanoušci už mohou ve svých přehrávačích sjíždět desku “Šachovnice”. Nejen o ní jsme si povídali s frontwoman Alenou Schernstein a basistkou Annou Olejníkovou.
Nové CD Ladybirds “Šachovnice” je tady. Jak se povedl křest?
Alena Schernstein: Křtily jsme 13. května v Jablonci nad Nisou na letní scéně Eurocentra. Přišla spousta lidí, počasí bylo ukázkové a naše písničky – ať vlastní nebo převzaté – v podání s kompletní rytmikou se dle ohlasů všem moc líbily. Takže jsme velmi spokojené. (úsměv) Hostem večera byl Ondřej Ruml a zazněly i skladby společné.
Tucet songů je tentokrát autorských. Jsou především nové, nebo jsou mezi nimi i takzvané šuplíkovky?
Alena Schernstein: Řekla bych, že od každého trochu. Od vydání posledního ryze autorského CD uběhlo již jedenáct let, některé singly jsme vydaly mezitím, ale samozřejmě jsme se dost věnovaly rodinám a hlavně (když to šlo) živému hraní. Takže za tu dobu se některé písničky stihly zašuplíkovat. Na CD uslyšíte jak autorské novinky, tak i starší kousky, třeba z období mé maturity. (úsměv)
Skladby jako “Lajlajlaj”, “Matky na tahu” či “Nevyspalá” popisují hodně pařmenský život, je třeba však uvést, že všechny jste vdané a s dětmi. Do jaké míry jsou tedy texty autentické, aktuální a kde je fikce či vzpomínky na bujaré mládí?
Alena Schernstein: Vlastní texty jsou vždy autentické, ne? (smích) Já mohu mluvit za píseň “Matky na tahu”. Ta vznikla vyloženě na akci, kamarádka Pavla Tomšová zapisovala nápady a na místě jsme rýmovaly… Pak jsem to jen zpracovala a bylo to. Aktuálně jsme všechny vdané a na kapelu máme celkem čtyři děti. Ale žádná z nás už nekojí a na děti většinou seženeme hlídání (nebo aspoň na většinu). Takže akce si umíme užít jako zamlada (možná i víc, když nás nehlídá táta (bujarý smích)).
Anna Olejníková: Věřte nebo nevěřte, “Nevyspalá” vznikla z úplně nevinného dětského zážitku, kdy jsem myla skleničky od vína po rodičích a připadala jsem si děsně dospělá, protože mi dali poprvé ochutnat víno. Je to jedna z mých nejstarších písniček a postupem času samozřejmě získávala (a získává) další a další významy. Je to ukázkový příklad písně, kdy se kontext textu v průběhu let mění a s ním i význam a vyznění celé skladby. Musím říct, že když ji teď zpívám na koncertech, opravdu si nepředstavuju mytí skleniček po rodičích. (úsměv) Mimochodem o dorůstání k vlastním textům jsem napsala diplomovou práci, takže odpověď na tuhle otázku by mohla mít klidně čtyřicet stran. (smích) No, a písnička “Lajlajlaj” vznikla po jednom z Alenčiných Narozkyfestů na Dobré Vodě u jednoho konkrétního ohně s konkrétními lidmi… Ta teda pařmenská, autentická (a možná i stále aktuální) je. (úsměv)

Nejen z textů songů, ale i ze životopisů jednotlivých členek, které si člověk může přečíst na webu kapely, se dá usoudit, že s vámi asi nuda nebude…
Alena Schernstein: No, rozhodně se nenudíme. Těšíme se na každou akci, každou zkoušku, každé hraní, každé natáčení. Kromě toho, že to znamená, že máme hlídání, je pro nás důležité, že jsme spolu a můžeme dělat to, co nás baví.
Za téměř pětadvacet let existence jste moc řadových alb s vlastní muzikou nevydaly – poslední je už jedenáct let staré. Proč jste se rozhodly zrovna v této pandemií poznamenané době jít zase s kůží na trh?
Alena Schernstein: To nebylo plánované, prostě to takhle blbě vyšlo. (úsměv) Konečně jsme dorodily a odkojily. V době pandemie jsme zalezly do našeho domácího studia a natočily si pro radost další promo CD z převzatých anglických písniček, které máme zpracované a hrajeme je na koncertech. Ale vlastních českých kousků přibývalo a autorské CD jsme plánovaly a probíraly hodně dlouho dopředu. Poslední dva roky jsme přemýšlely a na zkouškách diskutovaly, kterou cestou se dáme, koho si pozveme, jestli chceme skladby přearanžovat, nebo je nahrát tak, jak s nimi vystupujeme… Bylo to docela náročné rozhodování a zjišťování, co všechno to obnáší, kolik to stojí, jaké studio si vybrat. Opravdu přes dva roky jsme o tom jen dumaly a zjišťovaly možnosti.
Anna Olejníková: No, a další rok jsme poctivě zkoušely s bubeníkem, dolaďovaly aranže a jezdily natáčet do studia. Bylo to právě v té nešťastné covidové době, kdy byl každou chvíli někdo v karanténě. Ale na druhou stranu bylo méně koncertů, takže jsme měly možnost se soustředit na natáčení. Možná i díky tomu jsme ze sebe dostaly úplné maximum, aby deska byla co nejlepší.

Původní název formace je Berušky a rok vzniku je ten samý, kdy naši hokejisté slavně vyhráli olympiádu v Naganu, tedy 1998. Tehdy holkám bylo v průměru devět let, měly spoustu elánu, kuráže a sny, které se jim postupem času začaly plnit. Jezdily na nejrůznější (převážně folkové) festivaly, pracovaly na sobě, otrkávaly se a postupem času se jim podařilo natočit několik alb s vlastní i převzatou tvorbou. Žánrově jsou rozkročeny od folku až po pop a hrají hlavně to, co je baví. Letos už pod dospěleji znějícím názvem Ladybirds vydávají u vydavatelství SuperGram po jedenácti letech nové studiové album “Šachovnice”. Desku lze zakoupit zde.
Ke spolupráci jste zvolily poprvé i vydavatelství, konkrétně Ivana Kurteva a SuperGram. Jaké důvody vás k tomu vedly?
Alena Schernstein: Rozhodly jsme se zajít o krůček dál, než si nahrát písničky v domácím prostředí, mít v obýváku několik set našich CD a vozit je po koncertech. K Ivanovi vedla cesta přes folk, na kterém jsme vyrostly a kde jsme působily a pořád díky vlastní české tvorbě působíme. Ivan má zkušenosti s vydáváním, má kontakty na lidi, kteří si nás mohou pamatovat z dob našich začátků, umí zprostředkovat projekt na Startovači… a vůbec, je moc šikovný a pracovitý. Samy bychom to opravdu nezvládly. (úsměv) I s ním v zádech jsme měly pocit, že neděláme a neřešíme poslední půl rok nic jiného než nové CD. A to bylo s prací a rodinou v zádech docela vysilující. Ještě, že jsme ho oslovily. (smích)
Projekt na Startovači k podpoře nové řadovky byl úspěšný. Jak moc to povzbudí do další práce?
Alena Schernstein: To, že vyšel Startovač, bylo skvělé! Vybrat takovou částku po pandemii a v kombinaci s děním na Ukrajině byl docela zázrak a všem, kdo nás podpořili, moc děkujeme. A povzbuzení do další práce? My jsme povzbuzené do další práce neustále, nezávisle na okolnostech, nedokážu si představit, jak by to vypadalo, kdybychom byly ještě povzbuzenější. (smích)

Samy kapelu popisujete jako akustická muzika, v níž snoubíte country a folk s angloamerickým popem, což jsou poměrně odlišné žánry. Proč jste se rozhodly hrát obojí?
Alena Schernstein: Protože nás to baví. (úsměv) Vychází to v podstatě z naší historie. Začaly jsme jako dětská kapela Berušky a hrály jsme folk, postupně jsme tíhly ke country a jezdily vystupovat do westernových městeček a pak jsme si začaly půjčovat písničky z jiných žánrů a upravovat si je do našeho nástrojového obsazení. Od každého trochu, nikam pořádně nepatříme, ale to, co děláme, nás baví. A o tom to asi je. (úsměv)
Anna Olejníková: Nejdůležitější pro nás je (a na tom se jako kapela shodneme) hrát muziku naživo bez samplovaných podkladů. I když používáme čím dál tím víc nástrojů, vozíme s sebou stomp-box, což je takový malý velký buben (kopák) v krabičce, tak se stále držíme toho zahrát vše tady a teď (kdykoliv a kdekoliv). A jestli jsou to písničky rockové, disco nebo popové, to už je jedno. Hlavně že je to živá hudba! Stejně to v našem nástrojovém obsazení vždycky vyzní trochu folkověji, protože ve třech už prostě na víc nástrojů najednou zahrát nedokážeme. (smích)
Vznikly jste už v roce 1998. Odstartovala vaše úspěšná kariéra pořádně až pořadem Rozjezdy pro hvězdy, nebo se tak stalo dřív a tohle vystoupení vás jedině utvrdilo ve správné cestě?
Alena Schernstein: (smích) Nevím, jestli bych pořad Rozjezdy pro hvězdy označila za nějaký zlom nebo rozjezd. Spíš jako velkou zkušenost a zážitek. Ale nejvíce nás formovaly dětské hudební soutěže jako je Dětská Porta, Brána a především Folkový Kvítek. Díky nim jsme se dostaly na velká pódia folkových festivalů a díky rodině, která nás až neuvěřitelně podporovala a všude nás vozila, jsme nepřestaly hrát a mohly jsme dorůst až k tomu, co hrajeme dnes. Máme za těch skoro pětadvacet let třetí basistku v pořadí. Anička s námi hraje už přes třináct let.
Díky hraní na nejrůznějších festivalech jste mohly poznat vlastně všechny domácí hvězdy žánru folk a country, tak jací jsou všichni ti Nohavicové, Redlové, Daňkové a podobní bardi? Cítíte se s nimi na stejných pódiích dobře?
Alena Schernstein: Pana Nohavicu jsme ještě nepotkaly, ale s ostatními zmiňovanými se potkáváme nebo jsme se potkávaly často a vždy je to moc příjemné shledání. Dělá nám upřímnou radost, když se hvězdy takového formátu zastaví, přijdou nás pozdravit a případně pozvat na jejich akci, abychom jim tam zahrály. Byli to naši festivaloví strejdové, od kterých jsme se v dětství dozvěděly spoustu užitečných věcí. (úsměv) Především Jarda Samson Lenk, se kterým jsme se potkávali asi nejvíc. Nejspíš i proto vznikla v pozdějších letech spolupráce a zpíváme na několika jeho CD vokály. Na některých akcích si s ním vždycky rády zahrajeme a zpíváme naživo.
Anna Olejníková: Právě přes Samsona jsme se dostaly i k Vlastu Redlovi, Ivanu Hlasovi a dalším, se kterými jsme měly tu čest si zazpívat.
Je ještě jedna otázka, na kterou se musím zeptat – berlínský fanklub. Jak jste k němu přišly?
Alena Schernstein: V Polsku. (úsměv) Na jednom velkém westernovém festivale, kam jsme jezdily několik let za sebou a oni také. Ohromná banda skvělých Berlíňáků. A tak se stalo, že jsme jim začaly jezdit pravidelně hrát do Berlína a několikrát přijeli i oni za námi do Jablonce.

Combining the classic elements of the cinema of Tarantino e Hitchcockthe band tries to capture the song’s fierce mood and playful lyrics, as a series of catastrophic events unfold.
Here’s how i tell Maneskin this video:
In the “SUPERMODEL” video clip we wanted to pay homage to our favorite 90s movies. In the song we tried to capture a cinematic vibe about an enigmatic character and we wanted the video to reflect this style as well.
After we came up with the idea, we worked closely with the directors and Ben to recreate shots and sequences from our favorite films from those years. We had a lot of fun shooting in London, in funny scenes that reminded us of a crime B-movie.
The duo Bedroom adds:
The Måneskin video is a project inspired by a mixture of references to 90s films such as “Run Lola Run”, “The Hyenas”, and again Hitchcock and a bit of Hollywood from the 50s. The snatching of the mysterious bag is reminiscent of “Marnie” or “Pulp fiction”. It was shot in Super 16.

This video was born after spending a week at the pool in Los Angeles with the band, who leafed through Vogue magazines from the 90s and talked about their favorite films of those years. We have tried to include as many small references as possible in the video

Filmed in London and directed by the duo Bedroom Projects (The 1975) e Ben Chappell (Arctic Monkeys, Nine Inch Nails), il videoclip vede i Maneskinin total look Gucciprotagonists of their own script.
Combining the classic elements of the cinema of Tarantino e Hitchcockthe band tries to capture the song’s fierce mood and playful lyrics, as a series of catastrophic events unfold.
Here’s how i tell Maneskin this video:
In the “SUPERMODEL” video clip we wanted to pay homage to our favorite 90s movies. In the song we tried to capture a cinematic vibe about an enigmatic character and we wanted the video to reflect this style as well.
After we came up with the idea, we worked closely with the directors and Ben to recreate shots and sequences from our favorite films from those years. We had a lot of fun shooting in London, in funny scenes that reminded us of a crime B-movie.

The Måneskin video is a project inspired by a mixture of references to 90s films such as “Run Lola Run”, “The Hyenas”, and again Hitchcock and a bit of Hollywood from the 50s. The snatching of the mysterious bag is reminiscent of “Marnie” or “Pulp fiction”. It was shot in Super 16.

This video was born after spending a week at the pool in Los Angeles with the band, who leafed through Vogue magazines from the 90s and talked about their favorite films of those years. We have tried to include as many small references as possible in the video

The first theatrical musical by Jan Svěrák and Tomáš Klus “Branický zázrak” has been running since mid-May at the Na Fidlovačce Theater. The mystical story from today’s Braník tells the story of the songwriter Karel Krajíček, who has reached (crisis) middle age and wonders where his youth, fame, (wife’s) love, joy of life and now even a garage wheel have gone. He comes to terms with the fact that no one will give him back his youth, and he wants the bike all the more. He will launch a search operation on his own. The libretto for the musical on the outskirts of Prague was written by film director Jan Svěrák (“Obecná škola”, “Kolja”, “Vratné lahve”, “Tmavomodrý svět”, …) and the songs and lyrics were composed by the singer Tomáš Klus. For both of them, staging this act is a theatrical first. “I started writing a new screenplay, and for a long time I didn’t want to believe that I didn’t have a film under my hands, but a theatrical musical. I never did a theater! And who should compose all those new songs? Perhaps only Tomáš Klus could …” comments the former. And the singer fell in love with the story that he composed sixteen new songs for him in a few months. “I’ve probably never done anything better in my life. Perhaps because I didn’t write about myself for the first time,” admits.
“It will be a very engaging story and I believe it will affect everyone. Our collaboration with Honza Svěrák was interesting, Tamara even declared that we are like two scribes. I reached for a creative ego. I delivered the first song and three sheets came to it. A4 notes, because Honza can get an overview, we got into the dialogues, I think it got me the best I’ve ever written, and it’s a complex thing, I had specific limits, I had to follow the storyline and the songs are conceptually linked to each other, “ he told us a year ago in an interview. And how did the work continue? The interview continued: “I hired my band there, with whom I arranged the songs. We give it great form. We had a training session during which we sat over the libretto and discussed everything. It can be beneficial for the Czech musical scene in terms of approach and form. I will play one of “I’ve never played in any musical before. At the same time, I’ll be on the committee for the second time in my life and I’m really looking forward to it. But I’ll be there more as a consultant.”

I heard and saw Mňága and Žďorp about a hundred times, and on Friday it was different again – she played at the Scout Institute on the Old Town Square. The beautiful space consisting of three balconies provided an unusual spectacle. One had musicians in the palm of my hand, almost like in the living room. It was a bit like a bullfight, with people waiting on the walkways for a bull to run into the arena … But the sound was in full swing. Even the inclement weather in Prague that day calmed down at that moment. Nevertheless, the organizers stretched a sail across the yard to ensure that they did not have to disturb the concert under a wide sky. For those who did not make it to the railing, it was no longer such a win. Even so, it was possible to commute and enjoy the magic of the moment – Carpe diem. The upper floors were almost dizzy, and when they came down to the level of the musicians, it was impossible to see them because there was no stage in the backyard, so they were at eye level. Quite sad, especially for everyone who enjoys watching the scattered movements and gestures of frontman Petr Fiala and how much energy he puts into his crunch. Maybe that’s why he sat on the crates during the first half, which is really purely acoustic, so that he wouldn’t be completely drowned in space.

But the mnaga also filled this place literally: an exhibition of her large-format photographs, which people could buy during May, ran on the walls. Although it was a concert called as a birthday, Fiala’s formation celebrated this jubilee (35 years) easily in March in the Lucerna Music Bar – the baptism of the unplugged album “Přístav” and a video surprise from the fans. And even after those years, he doesn’t get fit. In the two-hour set, she bet on acoustics and, in addition to the classic constellation of hits, from which “Hourly Hotel”, “Song for You” or “Save Your Souls” surprisingly (at least for this evening), she also played lesser-known pieces. It can be seen that he still has something to choose from and that the well of the repertoire is almost bottomless. And I don’t think anyone missed that at that moment either. The audience got something else, although still in the reins of the typical Mňágov melancholy.

The second edition of the SummerFest is scheduled from 29 June to 30 July in the Romantic Garden of the Royal Palace in Naples.
20 evenings of concerts, shows and meetings, with the artistic direction of Maurizio Costanzo.
For four evenings a week, from Wednesday to Saturday at 9pm, Royal Palace SummerFest proposes for the second year a new idea of living summer evenings in the city, combining big names in national culture and entertainment with emerging talents.

The company, based in El Cajon, California, has been making guitars since 1974, and guitarists with their logo are looking for high quality workmanship and especially for their unmistakable sound. Both hot innovations belong to the prestigious 700 product line and their complete production takes place in the United States in California. Taylor 722ce Koa has a grand concert body shape, model 724ce Koa has a more compact grand auditorium shape. These electroacoustic guitars are made of solid koa wood and, compared to their predecessors, differ in a number of unique design elements, greater playing comfort and, most importantly, fuller sound. Tools made from this material abound in a wide range of colors and the ultra-thin layer of matt lacquer makes the natural wood pattern stand out. In addition, the open-pore structure of the top coat is very pleasant to the touch.

Thanks to the slightly bent rear reinforcement, the sound of the new models is more vivid, striking and shows faster responsiveness. The tone is full in a wide frequency range and the instruments are generally louder. Both models are equipped with Taylor Expression System 2 sound system. It is a completely unique way of shooting, which shifts the possibilities of realistic sound delivery to unprecedented dimensions. Three specially designed independent piezoelectric sensors located behind the bridge are used for sensing. Unlike conventional sensors, they do not sense the plate’s up and down movement, but the natural vibrations of the bridge saddle back and forth. This makes the sound much more natural, colorful, pleasant and responsive to the dynamics of the game. Thanks to the new preamp, the output signal is also 25% stronger. Of course, there is the elimination of feedback and the possibility of adjusting the volume, bass and treble.

Originally from the Hawaiian Islands, Koa competes perfectly with established manufacturing materials that have been on the CITES list in recent decades. Taylor works with the Hawaiian timber company Pacific Rim Tonewood. Today on All Music Italia we host the video preview of one of the most interesting and talented artists among those launched in recent years by Sanremo Young. Let’s talk about Folcast who, about to return on tour, presents us the video of the new single, Lifting.
The song, produced by Tommaso Colliva and contained in the album Timely. In the video clip. directed by Giacomo Citroare collected the images of the tour in the clubs, which took place last April, which gave so much satisfaction to the singer-songwriter …
Eventually, quite a lot of people came! In the confusion and buzz we found ourselves very happy. This is just a small part of what was perhaps more of a party than a concert, at least for me and the group. Lifting ”is a song about the first phase of love: falling in love. Beyond the romantic aspect, the changes and joys of that moment come disruptive, very unkindly right in the face.
In Giacomo Citro’s extract I find a lot of expressions and faces that almost make me go back to that period. It was a busy moment and I want to remember that. I can’t wait to find those expressions again this summer, back on tour.
I’m happy to be back around Italy again this summer. The stage is the dimension in which I am most comfortable and I can’t wait to share my music with the audience stage by stage.

Instead of another author’s album, however, she has prepared eleven remakes that map the inspiration sources of their leader Aaron Bruno. To make the collection even more diverse, they invited (almost) one exceptional guest to each song.

Many performers had the idea to produce a recording full of remakes. However, the Awolnation group managed to invite a number of strong musical names, which sympathetically color the result. Otherwise, however, the American band did not decide to experiment too much, and the songs mostly left the original feeling.
The first tones of the album “My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers And Me” belong to the relaxed atmosphere of the hit Midnight Oil “Beds Are Burning”. Rise Against punk rocker leader Tim McIlrath sang here with Bruno. The power of the opener depends mainly on the author’s handwriting of brilliant Australians, but the sensitive arrangements of the singer Awolnation did not damage the composition and breathed it into a more modern guise. The ballad of pro-rock legends Alan Parsons Project “Eye In The Sky” is a very peaceful affair, which attracts mainly the imaginative guitar of the multiple Grammy winner Beck. A solid surprise is the inclusion of the hit “Take A Chance On Me” by Swedish Abby, which was reworked by the British Erasure in 1992 with great success. But Awolnation approached the song less provocatively. In addition, they managed to join forces with the American singer Jewel and create probably the strongest duet of news. Here, the choice of the guest met with the precision of a surgeon. Another fresh choice is the cover of Madonna’s early hit “Material Girl”, in which synths send us to the days of its greatest glory. One of the brothers of the sibling group Hanson – Taylor took on the demanding singing role. But Aaron Bruno kept the biggest parade of the album until the second half of the album. The resurrection of the underground hit of the cult Fugazi “Waiting Room” is conceived with the necessary madness, and otherwise Pop Grouplove dealt with it more than politely.
Aaron Bruno is a strong composer with an exceptional musical sensibility. His Awolnation proved it on the excellent two-year-old “Angel Miners & The Lightning Riders”. That is why it is not without interest to watch the sources of inspiration of a special artist who hid a whole range of diverse genres and musical nooks in the collection “My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers And Me” and created a recording appreciated not only by his rock fans.
